One was riding an enjoyable five-game winning streak.

The other was looking to put an end to a four-game losing streak.By the end of Sunday night's doubleheader at Christman Field, the Franklin Township Shockers or Franklin Township Hurricanes were going to possibly extend their streak by one or two games.When the last out was recorded, it was the Shockers who scored the doubleheader sweep with identical 3-2 victories pushing their win streak to seven games.The streak was the last thing on Donnie Rehrig's mind after the game though. Instead, the Shockers' manager was all about talking about his players enjoying what they do best - play the game of baseball."We really don't talk about winning streaks," Rehrig said. "We're just out here playing baseball and having fun."Rehrig shortly admitted afterwards that he and his coaching staff tend to often preach pitching and defense are key to victories, in which they have now compiled 12 in 14 Keystone Senior Babe Ruth League games this season. Once again, the combination of the two was the formula for success on the diamond.Game two starter Anthony Rossino pitched a gem, tossing a complete game and went on to collect nine strikeouts on the night. In fact, in the fifth inning Rossino was able to accomplish a rare feat at any level within the game of baseball. He recorded four of his strikeouts in that inning alone.The accomplishment was just a mere thought to Rossino however."I'm just happy I could help my team out in any way," said Rossino, who allowed four hits, two runs, one earned and surrendered three walks in the win. "My defense is always out there helping me. They're always making plays for me, so I know I can throw every pitch and trust them enough to get the job done."That the Shockers' defense did in five of the seven innings Rossino worked on the mound. While Rossino recorded a single strikeout in five of the innings, and then the four coming in the fifth, the rest of the outs were scored by his surrounding supporting cast.The only mistakes Rossino gave up in the game were a Dom Pompa RBI-single in the fourth and a Dane Ciavarella RBI-single in the sixth."He (Rossino) pitched hard. He's a good pitcher," Hurricanes' manager Ricky Strohl said. "He fights for everything he gets in the game. But, we fought him well. We had good at-bats. Four hits is better than the last couple of games we have had. So, I can't complain."But, it's hard to rally when you're losing and I think we did that tonight. We played them two tough games. The first game we got burnt on a bad hop. But, we played them tough both games and that's what counts against a really good team."After Rossino and James Farano had back-to-back singles in the third, they both scored in unusual ways. Rossino scored on a wild pitch and Farano scored on a double steal.And, in the sixth, Anthony Farole drew a walk, stole second, moved to third on a Rossino sacrifice bunt. Finally, he scored on a throwing error to plate the game's final run." It was nip and tuck, back and forth," Rehrig said. "It was a Franklin Township rivalry. They have known each other since they have been playing Little League. You know you're going to get your best effort from either team no matter who's on the team or what the situation is."You're going to battle every single inning. L - Peters.Game OneThe Shockers opened the Franklin Township double-header with a 3-2 victory over the Hurricanes last night.In a premiere showdown between two of each team's best pitchers, it was the Shockers' Jacen Nalesnik, who got bragging rights over the Hurricanes' Dane Ciavarella as both finished with complete games.Anthony Farole led the way for the Shockers with a two-run single, while AJ Wenrich added a sacrifice fly RBI.Nate DeKorte paced the Hurricanes with two singles and a RBI, while Mitch Peters finished with two singles.
