The Baccalaureate Mass and graduation ceremony for Our Lady of the Angels Academy was held June 4 at St. Joseph's Church in Summit Hill. The Rev. James Burdess was the presider, and the Rev. Francis Schoenauer served as homilist.

Receiving diplomas were Jonathan Boerner, William Cannon, Anthony Collevechio, Nicholas Maruschak, Nate Parfitt, Hanna Dowd, Shawna McArdle, Amarynth Ruch and Britney Ziegler.

Awards for Excellence in the major subject areas were given as follows: Religion, Hanna Dowd; Mathematics, Amarynth Ruch; Science, Britney Ziegler; Language Arts, Shawna McArdle; Social Studies, Anthony Collevechio; Literature and Reading, Nate Parfitt.

An award for scholarship for the highest general average in the eighth-grade class was presented to Anthony Collevechio. An award for scholarship for the second highest general average in the eighth-grade class was presented to Amarynth Ruch.

The President's Education Awards Program was initiated in 1983 by President Ronald Reagan to recognize the nation's students for outstanding academic performance and achievements. Each recipient of the President's Award for Educational Excellence must have earned a grade-point average of 90 on a 100 point scale through grades six, seven, and during the first semester of grade eight and a high achievement on a standardized test battery score in math or reading. The following graduating students have met these criteria and are awarded the President's Award for Academic Excellence: Anthony Collevechio, Shawna McArdle and Amarynth Ruch.

Other awards presented were as follows: Principal's Award: Nicholas Maruschak.

The Sen. David C. Argall "Good Citizen" Award: Anthony Collevechio and Amarynth Ruch.

Diocese of Allentown Bishop's Scholarship (a $1000 scholarship to attend Marian Catholic High School): Anthony Collevechio and Shawna McArdle.

Connell McCall Memorial Grant: Britney Ziegler.

The Margaret Shober Scholarship ($300 tuition grant for Marian Catholic High School): Anthony Collevechio

Mr. Benjamin Davis Memorial Award: Nate Parfitt.

The Marian Catholic Principal's Scholarship: Jonathan Boerner.

Our Lady of the Angels Academy Service award: William Cannon.

IHM Math Contest certificates were awarded to: Anthony Collevechio, first place; Amarynth Ruch, second place; and Shawna McArdle, third place.

The Home and School Association presented each graduate with a rosary and the CYO gave each graduate a Class of 2013 shirt as a graduation gift.
