Registration has begun for the Summer Reading Program at Western Pocono Community Library and will continue through June 8. The reading program is a great way to help children maintain or even increase their reading levels throughout the summer months.

There will be several special guests who will visit the library during the summer, including Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center; Buckhill Skytop Music Festival; and local author Denise Smale.

This program is free to the community. They only ask that you register your child so they can be eligible for incentives and prizes during the program.

There are programs for children from birth to 7 years old, 8-12 years old and 13-18 years old.

The Summer Reading Program begins Tuesday, June 11 and runs through Thursday, Aug. 22 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. For more in depth information please call the library.

On Wednesday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. the library will be hosting a Fireworks Safety Program to discuss the dangers of fireworks and how to properly handle them. This is free and open to all ages. Each attendee will receive a small gift.

On Friday and Saturday, June 14-15, the Friends of the Library will be holding its Homemade Snack Sale and would appreciate donations of a homemade snack. Please make sure to label what the snack is and what it is made with, for allergy reasons, and drop it off at the library by 9 a.m. Friday, June 14. For more information contact the library.

The Friends of the Library, a support group that handles fundraising for the library, is in need of volunteers. They group also runs the Back Door Books Store and other odds and ends. New members are always welcome. Sign up by email or stop by the library to fill out the application.
