Historic house burns

WHITE HAVEN, Pa. (AP) - A fire has heavily damaged a historic home in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The old miner house is in the state-owned Eckley Miners' Village in Foster Township, Luzerne County.George Gera says he was born and raised in the house and has lived there for 86 years. Now, he leases the house from the state.He says he was awakened shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday by a smoke alarm and found the house filled with smoke. He says many family heirlooms have been destroyed.Museum site administrator Bode Morin said state museum officials are still assessing the situation but he's just glad Gera is safe.Fire officials say an electrical malfunction is the likely cause. A state police fire marshal has been called to investigate.
