The Slatington Public Library is preparing for its annual Chinese auction next month and is looking for donations of handcrafted items, gift baskets, gift cards and like-new items. Donations can be dropped off at the library during operational hours.
Sara, one of Therapy Dog International's Tail Waggin' Tutors, would like to listen to beginning readers, who wish to read to her for 15 minutes. Call the library for more information.
Growing a Garden of Readers, the library's reading incentive program, returns for children ages 4-12. Have fun reading throughout the summer. Stop in the library and sign up. For each book read, the child will receive a raffle ticket for the library's end of the summer raffle.
McDonald's is sponsoring its "Readers are Leaders" program. Any child who reads 10 books receives a coupon for a free Happy Meal. For more information, call the library.
The library will be hosting three more lectures in its Community Wellness Series: August, "The Importance of Immunizations in Good Health;" October, "You and your pharmacist a Partnership for Wellness;" and December, "Influenza Attacking a Serious Issue Head-On." Dates and times for these lectures will be announced at a later date.
The library is having a $1 per bag book sale. It has puzzles, audio tapes, VHS movies, and books. Whatever fits in a bag is $1. The library takes donations of books, but does not take encyclopedias, National Geographic, or Reader's Digest condensed books.
The Pathmark Community Rewards program allows shoppers to earn 1 percent off a purchase amount for the school or nonprofit organization of one's choice; in this case, the Slatington Public Library.
