Three area teams were victorious in Pennsylvania State Baeb Ruth Tournament action on Thursday. The Keystone Americans and Keystone Nationals both stayed alive in the 16-18 year-old tournament while Franklin Township opened the 15-year-old tournament with a win.

Also on Thursday, Tyler Svetik tossed a no-hitter to lead the Lehigh Valley Marlins to a Tri-County League victory.BABE RUTH 16-18Boyertown-Keystone Am.The Keystone Americans picked up a bounce-back 1-0 win over Boyertown in the loser's bracket of the 16-18 State Babe Ruth Tournament.The Keystone Americans are comprised of Keystone Senior Babe Ruth League players from the Franklin Township Shockers, the Franklin Township Hurricanes and the Panther Valley Black Diamonds.Anthony Rossino led the way both on the mound and at the plate for the Americans, picking up the game's only RBI when he doubled in the third inning to plate Michael Cataldo, who reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a ground out.Keystone threatened in the fourth and sixth innings to add insurance runs, but continued to struggle getting the key hit.In the fourth, Keystone's Josh Kern reached on a walk, but was forced out at second on a fielder's choice by Dane Ciavarella. Ciavarella utilized his speed to get to third with two outs by swiping two bags, but Keytone could not capatilize.In the sixth, a leadoff single by Frank Nietz and a sacrifice bunt by James Farano moved Nietz into scoring position with one out. But Keystone again failed to come up with a clutch hit with a runner in scoring position.The biggest threat for Boyertown came in the fifth inning, when the Bruins loaded the bases with one out. But danger was averted when Boyertown failed on a safety squeeze, which was played perfectly by Keystone catcher Thatcher David, who alertly pounced on the bunt, stepped on home and delivered a strike to first to get the runner by a step.In the seventh, Luke Stano came on in relief of Rossino and promptly gave up a leadoff single. But Stano maintained his composure by striking out the next two Boyertown hitters. Nick Frey added two hits, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Jerry Castillo worked four scoreless inning, striking out two, to pick up the pitching victoryBABE RUTH 15Bensalem-Franklin TownshipFranklin Township picked up a thrilling 1-0 win over Bensalem in the opening round of the 15 State Babe Ruth Tournament.Bensalem wasted no time putting pressure on Franklin as they loaded the bases in the top of the first. But Franklin starter Wyatt Clements escaped the jam when shortstop Brady Niehoff made an outstanding play to get a force out at second base.Bensalem would not have a runner reach second the rest of the game as Clements and his defense prevented any further threats.Franklin, on the other hand, had numerous opportunities to score. Franklin loaded the bases in bottom second when Ryan Malarkey reached on a one-out walk, which was followed by Erik Skrinkosky single. With two outs, Donovan Buchinsky laced a single to leftfield, but a flyout ended the inning.Franklin would again threaten in the third inning. With two outs, Clements walked, stole second and moved to third on Niehoff's single to shallow leftfield, A strike out ended the threat, however.In the fourth inning, Clements reached first on a one-out walk and later swipe second and third, but couldn't score as a fly out eventually ended the inning.The drama came to a head in the seventh inning. After a leadoff bunt single by Franklin's KJ Snerr, lightning was spotted in the area and the game was halted for 2 hours and 40 minutes. After play resumed, Bensalem's reliever uncorked a wild pitch to allow Snerr to advance into scoring position. It looked like Bensalem might escape the jam when Snerr was cut down at third on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Clements.But this time Clements' speed would make the difference. Davis' blast was a grand slam.Hamm, Boyle, Bonetsky and Knoblauch all had multiple hit games for Tamaqua Blue. Hamm, Breiner and Burns combined to toss the shutout.Towamensing Blue-AnthraciteTowamensing Blue defeated Anthracite, 6-5.Colby Kunkle and Brock Bollinger had two hits apiece for Towamensing. Owen Schoch added an RBI triple.Kunkle also got the win on the mound.Panther Vy. 9-10Lansford-TowamensingLansford outslugged Towamensing Township, 16-14.Bryce Krapf had a big game for Lansford, going 3-for-4 with a triple and also picking up the win on the mound. Tommy Edwards added a single and a triple; Julian Rickert had a single and a double, and Sage Alvarado chipped in a pair of singles.For Towamensing, Alex Clee had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate while Dylan Frank added two hits.
