Crusaders For A Cause recently presented a $500 donation to the Animal Shelter of Carbon.

Christina Obrecht, president of Crusaders For A Cause, said the donation came by way of proceeds raised during the organization's eighth annual spring carnival held in May in the Palmerton Borough Park.

Obrecht said the group was more than happy to assist the shelter.

"It's always important for us to help out the community in any way," Obrecht said. "We know that the ASC is always in need of donations."

Obrecht added that Crusaders For A Cause still has some proceeds from the carnival left to distribute.

Donna Crum, a volunteer with the Animal Shelter of Carbon, said the donation is "very well needed for what our intentions are for this county for animal cruelty."

"Supplying county residents for their veterinary needs, emergency funds, transporting, and just basically anything in the county that we can help out that's animal-related," Crum said. "We look forward to working with Crusaders and helping with their cause as well."

Crum, who serves as the county's cruelty officer, added that she was especially thankful to Obrecht.

"We're very grateful to have someone like her," Crum said. "Having her in this county is amazing."

Crusaders For A Cause was incorporated in May 2009 under the Non-Profit Corporation Law of 1988 as amended, to help raise money for various charities.

Those charities include Relay For Life/American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, March of Dimes, and many other community causes or projects.
