High school parking
The Tamaqua Area School District will have 67 parking spaces available for senior class members for the 2013-2014 school year. Applications will be available this week at the senior high school office. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Completed forms must be returned to the senior high office no later than July 30.
A lottery will be held Aug. 6 to determine which students receive a parking permit as well as space assignments. Students will then be notified by mail. Permits will be issued from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 12.
Grange to meet
The Lewistown Grange will meet at 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday, July 17, in the social hall of Zion's Church of the Lewistown Valley. The meeting will include a celebration honoring longtime members. Topics for discussion will also include "Tractor Day" on Aug. 24, from noon to 5 p.m. at Heisler's Dairy; and an exhibit for the Schuylkill County Fair.
This is a community night meeting and the public is welcome to attend.
The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the seventh year of its free Summer Concert Series. The concerts are held, from 6-8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station throughout the summer season.
The next concert will be held July 18 and will be performed by Steve Brosky and Jimmy Meyer. Upcoming events include: Aug. 2, YMI A Duo; Aug. 15, Todd Wolfe Band; Aug. 30, Jay Smar; and Sept. 13, Large Flower Heads.
The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet at 7 p.m. this Thursday. The meeting will be held in the South Ward Community Center on Penn Street.
The committee will be discussing the details needed to create a community garden. Anyone interested in a community garden, or in improving the ward, is welcome to attend.
St. Peter's Union
Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Summer Sunday School will be held at 10:15 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday through Friday, God's Backyard Bible Camp; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m.
