Two area fireworks shows are scheduled for this evening.
In Jim Thorpe, fireworks are part of the annual Stay-at-Home Festival at Memorial Park beginning at 10 p.m. The festival is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe American Legion Post.
The Emerald Fire Company is having its annual picnic and will be having fireworks beginning at 10:30 p.m. Music will precede the display. There is an admission fee.
The Stay-at-Home Festival is a two-day event which began yesterday.
Today's activities officially begin at noon with a flag-raising ceremony at Memorial Park.
Children's games get underway at 12:30 p.m.
Also at 12:30 p.m., there is a three-on-three basketball tournament.
Entertainment is scheduled from 3 p.m. until the time of the fireworks.
The raindate for fireworks in Jim Thorpe is Monday, July 8.
In Emerald, the rain date for the fireworks is Sunday, July 7.
Last night, a free fireworks display was staged in Summit Hill's Ginder Park. It was put on by borough resident Kevin Steber. There also was free entertainment.
