Stuff the bus
The Schuylkill United Way is again sponsoring its annual "Stuff the Bus" campaign, collecting school supplies for county students from low income families. In addition to collection locations at the Schuylkill Mall, Cressona Mall and Fairlane Village Mall, donations will also be collected at the Tamaqua Salvation Army and the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce office.
Backpacks, pens, pencils, erasers, notebooks, binders, folders, rulers, crayons, highlighters, mini staplers and markers are needed. the items will be collected all month (July).
The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the seventh year of its free Summer Concert Series. The concerts are held, from 6-8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station throughout the summer season.
The next concert will be held July 4 and will be performed by Fred Douglas. Upcoming events include: July 18, Steve Brosky and Jimmy Meyer; Aug. 2, YMI A Duo; Aug. 15, Todd Wolfe Band; Aug. 30, Jay Smar; Sept. 13, Large Flower Heads.
SS. Peter and Paul
First Friday will be observed this week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m. on July 5, followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls will begin at 9 a.m., with the exception of the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, Coaldale and Hometown. Communion calls to those parishioners will be made on Thursday.
July 6 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.
Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on July 7 and receive Holy Communion as a group. A rosary will be said before the Mass.
The Rev. James Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. The later service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA. Sunday school is held at 9:15 a.m., at the church.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Playground Pals at 11:30 a.m. at the South Ward Playground, kitchen and social commission meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Waterside Whistle Stop at 2:30 p.m. at the Bungalow, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8 a.m., praise rehearsal at 9:30 a.m.
St. Peter's Union
Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion. Summer Sunday School will be held at 10:15 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, food co-op at 9 a.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m.
