Students from Marian Catholic High School's chapter of Future Business Leaders of America joined together to raise money for Penn State's THON, a yearlong effort ending in a 46 hour dance marathon, completely student run. THON'S goal is to raise funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. All proceeds are used to conquer pediatric cancer by providing emotional and financial support for the children, families, researchers, and staff of the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State's Hershey Children's Hospital. Members from MHS FBLA designed and sold "Go Gold for the Goal" t-shirts, gold silicone wristbands and gold balloons for the final home football game against the Tamaqua Raiders. MHS players wore gold socks and shoelaces and gold ribbons on their helmets, donated by local businesses. A bake sale was also held and donations collected to add to the funds. At halftime of the game all balloons were released FTK (For The Kids.) Through the dedicated efforts of the students and faculty, the club donated $1,400 in time for this year's marathon in February. FBLA members are working toward making the event an annual tradition. FBLA officers for the 2012-2013 school year are: Mary Susan McAndrew, Alex Hutta, Emily DeSantis, Emily Betterly, and Jessica Horlacher.
