One of the longest, continuously running, blues/rock bands in the world today, blues-rock innovators Savoy Brown, will appear in concert at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe, at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Formed by British guitarist and songwriter Kim Simmonds in 1966, Savoy Brown's fusion of blues, rock, and jazz music was revolutionary for late-1960s England.
Savoy Brown would release an amazing string of critically-acclaimed, commercially-successful albums including 1969's Blue Matter and A Step Further; 1970's Raw Sienna and Looking In; 1971's Street Corner Talkin'; and 1972's classic Hellbound Train.
One of the earliest of British blues bands, Savoy Brown, with founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, helped launch the 1967 UK blues boom movement that brought blues music back to the USA invigorating the style forever.
In the process, the band became part of the framework that launched the rock and roll music of the 1970's. Their influence now stretches into modern rock as we know it today.
The band will be showcasing their hot new Voodoo Moon CD release,
Brown's 50th release to date, Voodoo Moon reflects a lifetime of living and loving the blues.
The songs feature Simmonds trademark, hard-rockin' bluesy fretwork, the British blues giant is backed on this recording by his talented new touring band: vocalist Joe Whiting, bassist Pat DeSalvo, and drummer Garnet Grimm. Fans and promoters report this is one of, if not the best live concerts and new music in the ever-evolving lineup of Savoy Brown.
From London's Soho night clubs in 1966 to headlining the world's most famous venues (Carnegie Hall, Fillmore's East and West, Cobo Hall, etc) Savoy Brown has done it all and as the band continues to tour worldwide they give a glimpse into the past and also inspire new listeners with their personal brand of rocking boogie, blues and rock.
