Schuylkill County District Attorney Karen Byrnes-Noon, announced she will seek election to a full term this year.
Byrnes-Noon, a Democrat, was appointed district attorney in 2011 and took over the position in 2012 after former DA, James Goodman, was elected a judge on the Court of Common Pleas.
Byrnes-Noon is a 24 year member of the staff in the DA's office.
She is certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in criminal law and is a member of the Pennsylvania and Schuylkill County bar associations, the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Association, the Chamber of Commerce, Schuylkill Women in Business, Schuylkill Elder Abuse Prevention Alliance (SEAPA), the Pottsville Business and Professional Women's Club, LAOH Girardville Division, the East End Democratic Club, Democratic Women's League, St. Joseph's Church, president of the Spartan Cheerleading Booster Club, an honorary member of the Mahanoy City Women's Democratic Club.
She is a former president of the Immaculate Heart Home and School Association, and the former treasurer of the Spartan Football Halftime Club.
Relative to her experience, she has tried every type of case from summaries to capital murder cases.
She was the first attorney to present DNA in Schuylkill County and the first attorney to present DNA in a homicide case.
She spent much of her career trying child physical and sexual assault cases. This year her office became more active in looking for fugitives who did not show for court appearances.
She is married to Attorney David Noon and they have two children, Dan, a freshman at Kutztown University, and Molly, a junior at North Schuylkill High School.
She is a 1977 graduate of Pottsville Area High School, 1981 honors graduate of Penn State University, and a 1985 graduate of the Dickinson School of Law.
