A Carbon County jury panel found a Easton man guilty of 10 criminal counts, including attempted rape, following a three day trial this week.
The panel deliberated Wednesday afternoon and early evening before finding John Anthony Vega, 29, guilty of two counts each of criminal attempt-rape forcible compulsion, burglary and criminal trespass, three counts of indecent assault, and one count of simple assault.
Vega was charged by state police at Lehighton with entering the home of a then 78-year-old woman in Lower Towamensing Township on two separate occasions and attempting to rape her. The incidents occurred in October 2007 and again in May 2008.
Last December Vega was sentenced in Lehigh County court for similar incidents in North Whitehall involving a then 77-year-old woman as the victim. He was convicted of aggravated assault, aggravated indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, attempted rape, and burglary.
He was sentenced to serve 30 to 64 years in a state prison by a Lehigh County judge.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II, who presided, deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation (PSI) report.
Vega is currently in a state prison serving the Lehigh County sentence.
