Driver runs light, causes four-vehicle crash

A driver ran a red light at a Schuylkill County intersection and caused a four vehicle crash. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, at the intersection of state routes 443 and 183, in Friedensburg, Wayne Township.

Troopers said Lois S. Zanini, 86, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 1994 Buick LeSabre, was westbound on 443 and failed to stop for a red traffic light at the intersection.Her vehicle struck a 2000 Jeep Cherokee driven by Gregory G. Nason, 21, of Schuylkill Haven, broadside pushing it into a 2002 Mercedes-Benz operated by Jeffrey P. Paul, 66, of Lancaster. Paul was alongside Nason when the collision occurred.The LeSabre continued to push the Jeep through the intersection in a northwest direction and collided with a 1999 Subaru Legacy driven by Karen M. Harris, 42, of Branchdale. Upon impact the Mercedes spun 90 degrees in a counter-clockwise direction and came to rest in the median. The other vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane of 183.Zanini and Nason were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries. Paul and Harris were not injured.Troopers said Zanini was cited for the red light violation.
