Washington Twp. re-elects officers

Washington Township supervisors held a reorganizational meeting Monday, re-electing Josh Friebolin as Chairman and Roy Dengler as vice-chairman. Gerald Phillips, who is also employed by the township as a laborer, is the third supervisor.

JoAnn Ahner was re-appointed as secretary and treasurer, and Sally Mantz as assistant secretary and assistant treasurer. The Allentown law firm of Fonzone and Ashley were reappointed to provide legal services for the township.The supervisors named Tom Dengler as roadmaster and hired Keystone Consulting Engineering, Wescoesville, to provide engineering services. Justin Yaich was hired as part-time zoning and code enforcement officer.During the regular business meeting, the supervisors voted to renew three junkyard permits: Mark and Craig Yeanish, Jack and Kyle Follweiler and Kathy Sue Jones. The supervisors hired the firm Buckno Lisicky and Co., Allentown, to perform the audit of the township's books from 2012.The Washington Township millage rate was dropped from .9 to .3, as a result of action taken by Lehigh County. Township Secretary JoAnn Ahner explained that Lehigh County changed its method of tax assessment on properties. Formerly, the millage rate was applied to a property based on half its assessed value; in 2013, the millage rate will be applied to a property based on its full assessed value. Washington Township reduced its millage rate from .9 to .3 to adjust to the change, she explained.The township's regular meetings will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.
