The Carbon County man who was struck by a train and killed Sunday morning has been identified.
County coroner Bruce Nalesnik said Gregory Michael Hummel, 29, of Weissport, died when struck during the early morning hours.
Nalesnik said Hummel was found deceased lying on the railroad tracks in Weissport. Information obtained indicates that he may have been intoxicated and left his residence about 2:30 a.m. after contacting family members, Nalesnik said.
Hummel was struck by a westbound Norfolk Southern train sometime during the early hours, Nalesnik added. An autopsy was scheduled for 8 a.m. today at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, to determine the cause of death.
Nalesnik said the manner of death is still under investigation. Nalesnik is being assisted in the investigation by state police at the Lehighton barracks.
