Board of Health
The February meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker and Code Enforcement Officers Joshua Esposito and Rick Harman in attendance.
Esposito submitted his report for January, during which time he inspected 32 eating and drinking establishments, for a total, so far, of 51 end-of-year inspections. There were no cases of reportable diseases last month.
The board meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building.
The Tamaqua Area School District will be conducting kindergarten registration on March 18, 19 and 20, by appointment only. Registration packets will be available beginning Feb. 19 at all three of the district's elementary schools or by calling (570) 668-3306.
During the registration process, children will be evaluated by a team of professionals, including a classroom teacher, nurse and speech therapist. Parents/guardians must supply the child's proof of residency, health and immunization records and the child's original birth certificate.
Office hours at the schools are Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
SS. Peter and Paul
Stations of the Cross will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Pine Street. Choir rehearsals are held following stations on Wednesdays.
The Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Wendell Heisler will provide a reading from Scripture and Carl Heisler will present a musical solo. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Lenten services will be held Wednesday at Frieden's Lutheran Church. The evening will begin with a song fellowship, at 7:15 p.m, with a service at 7:30 p.m.
St. John UCC
Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ. A time of food and fellowship will be held following the service. Sunday school for all ages is held at 11 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at noon.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, spiritual council will meet at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, joint Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ.
The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. church service this Sunday in Zion's Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school and the Confirmation class will meet at 9:30 a.m.
On Tuesday, a fundraiser meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. and a preschool meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Pretzel orders are due on Feb. 22.
Canned goods will be collected throughout the month of February and will then be donated to the Tamaqua Salvation Army.
A Joyful Noise Offering will be part of the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ. Sunday school classes meet at 8:45 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, mid week joint service, 7:30 p.m, in Trinity; Thursday, senior choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m., search committee meeting at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, fish bake starts at 4 p.m.; Saturday, prayer shawl meeting at 1 p.m.
A congregational meeting will be held during the 10 a.m. service on Jan. 27. The service will be followed by a chicken dinner in Founder's Hall.
Sunday worship services in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church are held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the senior choir will rehearse at 10:30 a.m., a time of coffee and conversation will be held at 11 a.m. and the Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, drama club meets at 5 p.m.; Tuesday, Scouts met at 6 p.m., council meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, joint Lenten service at 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran; Thursday, rejoice and sing choir rehearsal at 7 p.m.
The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network will meet at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 24, at Zion's.
