Floyd "Reds" Kresge, a resident at The Village at Palmerton, recently celebrated his 92nd birthday on Feb. 9.

Reds is a native of Palmerton having worked as a foreman for the N.J. Zinc Company until his retirement.He played minor league baseball for a time in the 1940s in Limeport, Pa."Back then we got paid $15 a game a lot different than nowadays," Floyd says with a grin.He met his wife Violet while in the Air Force. He was a turret gunner and she was a supply clerk. She said he would spend a lot of time at the supply depot, and so she recognized him later when her friends introduced them at the local coffee hut. They dated for several months, and decided to marry before Floyd was discharged home. The Air Force schedule didn't allow them time to fly back home to New England, so they were married on Bradley Air Field in the chapel.Currently, Reds and Violet both live at the Village. They have one daughter Karen, who lives in Lehighton.Reds enjoys watching game shows in the afternoon, playing bingo, and sometimes get a game of pool together with the other guys.
