LV football scholar athletes named

The Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame is holding its Football Scholar Athlete Banquet on Sunday, March 3, at 4:30 p.m. at the Northampton Community Center.

The speaker this year is Penn State coach Bill O'Brien. Tickets are $30. Contact Herb Barrall at 484-515-6530.Following are this year's area nominees:Daniel HartungJim ThorpeA 5-11, 165-pound wide receiver and defensive back, he ranks 9th out of 120 students. He is an honor roll student, a member of the Olympian Learn and Serve, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and is a peer mentoring leader. His community activities include volunteering for the Split Rock Community Organization and as a lifeguard.Jacen Michael NalesnikLehightonA 6-2, 215-pound quarterback, running back, receiver, tight end, defensive end, and kicker, he ranks 1st out of 145 students. He is a member of the National Honor Society, earned all-conference honors and participates in baseball, basketball and wrestling. He is a member of the Red Cross Club, FBLA, the Carbon County Citizen's Bee and is a peer tutor. He volunteers with his church youth group, youth sports and a food pantry.John Steven DolinichNorthwesternA 6-0, 185-pound placekicker and punter, he ranks 44th out of 170 students. He is a member of the National Honor Society and participates in track and soccer. He is a member of the science, foreign culture and ski clubs and the Emerging Health Professionals.Alex VignonePalmertonA 5-10, 175-pound tailback and free safety, he ranks 13th out of 121 students. He achieved high honors all four years of high school and participates in track. He is a member of the Environmental Club, student council, the gifted program and he is a 2012 Mini Maxwell Award winner. His community service activities include Special Olympics, a youth sports coach, the SOAR behavior program and Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.Jordan Marcus CaffreyPleasant ValleyA 6-0 150-pound placekicker and punter, he ranks 23rd out of 508 students. He is an honor roll student, National Honor Society member and participates in baseball. He is a math tutor, a participant in TDs for Cystic Fibrosis, and event organizer for Bear Shooting Camp. He volunteers for Angel 34, Special Olympics, Relay for Life, the Salvation Army, the Lucy Fund and is a community disaster volunteer.Caleb Edward JohnsonNorthern LehighA 6-4, 215-pound running back and linebacker, he ranks 9th out of 151 students. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, earned all-state and all-conference honors and participates in basketball and track. He is a member of the Interact, SADD, Spanish and Chess clubs, as well as the student council. He volunteers at various events at his church and is a nine-year altar server.
