(Editor's Note: In an effort to inform our readers of various governmental offices that are subject to election/re-election in 2013, this is the fourth of a five-part series to relating to the election process.)

School director positions in all five districts in Carbon County are set to expire in 2013, but are among the many municipal positions subject to the electorate's choice in the May 21 Primary Election and the Nov. 5 General Election.

The following terms of office are scheduled to end:

Jim Thorpe Area

School District

Terms subject to election are those of: Gerald Strubinger, Randall L. Smith, Dennis McGinley and the late Thomas Henry, whose position has not yet been filled by a vote of the remaining board members. All are four-year terms.

Also subject to the election is the term of Robert Schaninger, who was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Jeremy Melber, who resigned. That is a two-year term.

Lehighton Area

School District

Terms expiring this year and subject to election are those of Hal Resh, John T. Finnegan, William J. Hill Jr. and Dave Krause. All of the positions are four-year terms.

Palmerton Area

School District

Terms expiring this year and subject to election are those of: Barry Scherer, Clarence Myers III, Susan Debski and Darlene Yeakel. All of the positions are four-year terms.

Panther Valley

School District

Terms expiring this year and subject to election are those of: Koreen Nalesnik, David Hiles, Irene Genther and Richard Zabroski. All of the positions are four-year terms.

Weatherly Area

School District

Terms expiring this year and subject to election are those of: John Toft Jr., Corey E. Gerhart, Bonita Urban and Amy L. Potsko, four-year terms; and Girard A. Fewins Sr., who was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Thomas Russell, who resigned, two-year term.

Persons aspiring to run for public office are required to circulate petitions to obtain signatures from voters of either the Democratic or Republican parties in order to get their names on the ballot. Ten signatures are required.

The first day to circulate and file nomination papers is Tuesday, Feb. 19, and the last date to circulate and file them is Tuesday, March 12.

For persons wanting to register to vote, the registration period is open from now until April 22.
