Gordon Chandler, a resident at the Village at Palmerton, recently celebrated his 99th birthday. He was born on Feb. 4, 1914.
A native of Slatington, Gordon dropped out of high school in 10th grade to get a job to help his mom with the bills.
"I never missed a day of school … ever! Ten years of school and perfect attendance. But mom needed money so I had to leave," said Gordon.
He is a retiree of Bethlehem Steel, where he worked in the rolling mill.
Gordon is a very social person. He enjoys playing cards with his daughter Kathy, who is also his biggest cheerleader when Gordon is Wii bowling. He likes to play Parcheesi and bingo, attends exercise sessions twice a week, and plays cards while chatting with all his friends on the third floor.
Gordon has three children. His son Terry lives in South Carolina, and his daughters, Kathy and Karen, live in Bowmanstown. They visit often and have become a welcome part of the community at The Village.
