The Read Across America celebration is in its 16th year and is sponsored by the National Education Association in schools across the country. Locally this nationwide event features guest readers from the community who visit classrooms to share their favorite Dr. Seuss books with the students.

This year an assembly will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28, in Weatherly featuring Harry Sipler reading Green Eggs and Ham. Elementary students under the direction of music teacher Amanda Derr will be performing songs while other elementary students share facts about Dr. Seuss's life with the audience.

Seuss's birthday is March 2.

To help defray costs, the Weatherly Area High School Alumni Association has donated $400 to this year's Read Across America celebration in the school district.
