State police at Lehighton reported the results of roving DUI patrols conducted between Jan. 1-31 at various locales in their coverage area.
The patrols resulted in nine motorists being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. In addition, seven motorists were drinking but released after passing field sobriety tests. There were 37 citations issued and one motorist was arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance.
The operation was conducted as part of the state police Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Driving (STEAD D). The operation is designed to reduce the number of drunk driving fatalities and injuries in the state.
