Kindergarten registration in the Panther Valley School District will be held on April 3, 4, and 5, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
For a child to be registered for Kindergarten, the parent must call the Panther Valley Elementary School and make an appointment. No walk-ins will be accepted.
Registration will be held at the Panther Valley Elementary School, 1 N. Mermon Avenue, Nesquehoning.
Parents should call the school weekdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at (570) 669-9411. At the time of the call, be prepared to provide the following information to the secretary: parents' names, address, and telephone number along with the child's name and birth date.
A child must be 5 years old before Oct. 1, 2013 to be eligible for Kindergarten. No exceptions.
When attending registration, the parent should have a state-issued birth certificate or other acceptable proof of name and age, along with immunization records for the child enrolling. Also, the parent must bring two proofs of residency.
At their scheduled appointment, parents will meet with the school secretary who will record all pertinent family information, as well as determine the child's bus stop.
The school nurse will record all medical information, review immunization requirements, and provide information on health related issues.
The parents will then, as a group, meet with Mrs. Figura, PVES principal, for a review of the rules of the school. Finally, the parents will have the opportunity to meet the Kindergarten teachers to discuss the Kindergarten curriculum and related activities.
While the parents are completing these meetings, the children will be participating in their own activities. Each child will receive auditory testing, a visual screening test and a readiness test.
The entire orientation and testing program will take approximately 45 minutes. The time spent will help both the parents and children to feel more comfortable about beginning school, enable school personnel and families to become better acquainted, and make this new experience a special time for the children and their parents.
