The calendar for 2014-15 school year was adopted by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 School Board with the first day of school being Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, and the last day, Friday, May 29, 2015.

The holidays will be: Thanksgiving Recess, Nov. 27-28, and Dec. 1, 2014; Christmas Holiday, Dec. 24, 2014, through Jan. 4, 2015; Good Friday, April 3, 2015, and Easter Recess, April 2, 6-7, 2015, which will also serve as snow makeup days, and Memorial Day, May 25, 2015.Six new directors were seated at the reorganization session.They were Anne J. F. Usuka, Blue Mountain; Jay Hanley, Mahanoy Area; Suzanne O'Neill, North Schuylkill; Karen Hoy, Pine Grove Area; Tom Kaledas, Saint Clair Area; and John Mika, Williams Valley school districts.Payments were approved for instructional services and supplies utilized during the month of October to Minersville Area, $4,494.36; Pottsville Area, $10,463.60; North Schuylkill, $6,121; and Williams Valley, $9,923.36. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Cohort 6 grant covers all costs.The board hired the following:Jennifer Fritz, Ringtown, as case manager in the Schuylkill Learning Academy at an annual salary of $30,000; Wilbur Dubiansky, Mahanoy City, substitute behavior interventionist and substitute mental health therapist at $80 per day; Catherine Cairo, Mahanoy City, and Shannon Mabry, Pottsville, as substitute cafeteria workers at $8.60 per hour; Lauren Beecroft, Auburn, substitute nurse at $19.65 per hour; law firm of Lewis, Williams, and Caravan, Schuylkill Haven, to continue to serve as solicitor at a fee of $6,000; and Kelly Sinn, Tamaqua, as a substitute special education teacher at the South Campus at $80 per day.Christine Micholick, Lansford, a student at Lehigh Carbon Community College, was granted permission to observe the occupational therapy staff for eight weeks at no cost to the district. Palmela Binder, New Ringgold, was named substitute teacher for the preschool program at the Schuylkill Learning Academy.Custom-made aluminum Christmas tree ornaments were presented to board members by students from the Machine Trades Technology Class at the South Campus. The ornaments were made on a HAAS Mini mill in the machine shop.
