A homeless man who reportedly started a campfire in downtown Tamaqua on Monday has been cited.

Stephen Anthony Molettiere, 65, whose last permanent address was in Allentown, told police he was cold and started a fire on the sidewalk to warm himself.

The incident happened at 5:05 a.m. in front of the Verizon building on West Broad Street. Police also noticed Molettiere had been drinking alcohol, with several empty containers around the campfire. He was taken into custody and transported to the police station.

Molettiere was cited for arson, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and violating the borough's open fire ordinance.
