Tamaqua fire company saving old ladder

Opting to save a piece of history, members of the American Hose Company in Tamaqua are looking to restore and display a 25-foot wooden ground ladder in their fire company. Originally mounted on their 1937 Seagrave tillered aerial fire truck, the ladder was recovered and stored at the company's grove in West Penn Township for many years. The truck was in disrepair and eventually sold to a private party in the early 70's. Members are planning on revitializing the ladder for prominent display in the firehouse. American Hose Company firefighters, l-r, Art Connely(47-year member), Ray Swartz (5-year member) and Nick Hollenbach (3-year member) have to step across SR309 to negotiate the antique ladder into their firehouse.
