Children and teen activities

Preschool story hour is held every Friday at 10:30 a.m. during the school year beginning Sept. 6.Watercolor painting classes are offered on Tuesdays for children. Call the teacher at (610) 824-4962 for more information. New classes for adults and children are now forming.Homework Helpers meets every Wednesday, at 2:45 p.m. for grades 7-12 and 3:15 p.m. for grades 1-6. Volunteer tutors will help your child with his or her homework and other assignments. This is free but parents must register each child.New members are welcome to join the Teen Advisory Group. Check out the new bulletin board beside the elevator for details about meeting days and events. Call the library and ask for Mariann for details.Activities for allKnitting Club meets the first and third Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. The club is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting of all skill levels.Third Monday Book Club meets the third Monday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. and discusses a different book each month. On Sept. 16, the club will discuss "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.Yoga Classes are offered every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Call the teacher at (570) 436-1762 for more information or stop in on Saturday.The library board of directors meets the third Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.Friends of the Palmerton Area Library meet four times a year. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcomeA new quilt guild will meet at the library on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Please use the side door.Book salesThe library's basement book sale is open during regular library hours. New books, movies, puzzles and CDs arrive on a weekly basis.EventsThe third annual Palmerton Area Library Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Blue Ridge Country Club. Sponsors and new teams are welcome.A free concert featuring Jay Smar, "Coal Mining Songs of the Northeast," will be offered Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.A quilt show will be held Sunday, Oct. 13 from noon to 4 p.m.
