The Gathering

The Gathering will be held from 1 p.m. until close on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Trout Run Covered Bridge in Slatington/Washington Township, rain or shine.There will be music, food, beverages, vendors and crafters, and The Great Slatington Duck RaceDuck Certificates are available at the Northern Lehigh Historical Society stand.There will be a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.Slatington Public LibraryLook for the library's table at the Presbyterian Church's Apple Festival. They will be having a book sale.Local author William L. Leickel has produced a new title "Soap Box Derby 1937-1978."His book chronicles the history of the soap box derby in Slatington, and is filled with pictures of the town and the people. The book is available at the library and at the Slatington Diner. The library also has black and white copies of his previous title "Business's along the Boulevard." Proceeds from both books benefit the library.Preschool story hour takes place on Wednesdays at 11 a.m.Our Wonderful World of Wildlife story hour will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. Children ages 4 through fifth grade are welcome. There will be stories, crafts and fun. The program is directed by Debra Siglin.The library accepts book donations with the exception of encyclopedias, text books, and Reader's Digest condensed books.Library hours are Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed Thursday and Sunday.
