JIM THORPE

Head coach - Jim Hauze (Third season)

Last year's record - 1-10

Classification - AAA

Key Returnees - Brett Luicana (Jr.), Alex Heydt (Sr.)

Key losses - Nick Goldberg, Jake McGeehan

Others to watch - Luke Eggert (Jr.), Katie Wagner (Sr.), James Marks (Jr.), Will Kovolenko (Jr.), Declan Behan (So.)

Outlook - Jim Thorpe will be lacking experienced varsity players this season. In a sport where familiarity is crucial, coach Jim Hauze will work with his team on making continued progress in order to build a solid foundation for the future. With a group of highly dedicated players, the Olympians appear to be on the right track.

Quoteable - "We're looking for improvement, for each golfer to get a bit better, and that will hopefully result in more wins this year or next." Head coach Jim Hauze.

LEHIGHTON

Head coach - Matthew Fisher (Fourth season)

Last year's record - 2-12

Classification - AAA

Key Returnees - Jordan Knappenberger (Jr.)

Key losses - Alden Everett

Others to watch - Geron Gilbert (Jr.), Nick McGeehan (So.)

Outlook - A young Lehighton squad will look to rebound after a disappointing 2012 season with a core of juniors and sophomores leading the way. The Indians will also be looking to make the most of their last season in the Mountain Valley Conference before moving to the Schuylkill League next year. With matches against two current Schuylkill League opponents, Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua, Lehighton will get a taste of what next year's competition is going to be like a year early.

Quoteable - "We're just really excited for this year. We want to win a few more matches (in the MVC) this season and just improve our record from last year. We have a lot of young kids out this year and we're looking forward to seeing how they improve throughout the year." Head coach Matthew Fisher

MARIAN

Head coach - Len Brylewski (18th season)

Assistant coaches- Jean Green

Last year's record - 12-0 (Schuylkill League)

Classification - AA

Key Returnees - Mark Postupack (Sr.), Michael Dino (Sr.), Austin Paisley (Sr.)

Key losses - Josh Green, Mike Gottstein, Nick Kweder, Chris Postupack, Eric Mason

Others to watch - Kyle Stanek (Sr.), Travis Martz (Sr.)

Outlook - The Colts, coming off a fourth consecutive 12-0 season in Schuylkill League play, will enter 2013 with more unknowns than in recent memory. With a number of key players from last year's team gone, coach Len Brylewski will have to shuffle his lineup and look for contributions from a returning group of seniors that have experienced a great deal of success over the last four years. With that group's knowledge of the game and Brylewski's ability to maximize his team's efforts, the Colts should have no trouble achieving continued success in 2013.

Quoteable - "This is going to be somewhat of a rebuilding year for us. We have a lot of work to do and we'll just have to see how it fits. I'm hoping we're at least 8-4 this season." Head coach Len Brylewski.

NORTHWESTERN

Head coach - Tim Miller (Second season)

Last year's record - 11-3

Classification - AA

Key Returnees - Cole Miller (Sr.), Nick Vecellio (Sr.), Zack Caruso (Jr.)

Others to watch - Sam Haas (Sr.), Zack Goddard (Sr.)

Outlook - With Miller and Vecellio in the top two spots, the Tigers will be strong at the top of the line up. Miller is coming off a junior season where he finished second at the District 11 tournament and placed at regionals to move on to the state tournament, where he turned in a runner-up finish. Vecellio, who was fourth at districts and fifth at leagues, joined Miller in York last season and gained valuable experience playing with the best golfers in the state. The Tigers also enjoyed great success as a team last year, capturing the Northern Division of the Colonial League. With a strong core returning and a number of newcomers, 2012 Colonial League Coach of the Year Tim Miller will have plenty to work with in 2013.

Quoteable - "We have a lot of senior leadership on this team. The seniors have embraced the younger players and really tried to help them along as much as they can. I feel those relationships that the kids are forming will help the team grow throughout the season." Head coach Tim Miller.

PALMERTON

Head coach - Dave Lavin (Fourth season)

Last year's record - 4-10

Classification - AA

Key Returnees - Casey Cook (Jr.), Charles Debski (Jr.)

Key losses - Ke-Koa Mook, Ryan Saylor

Others to watch - John Fraee (Fr.), Tyler Grammes (Fr.), Justin Nunn (Jr.), John Elichar (Fr.)

Outlook - The Bombers will be relying on a number of underclassmen this season, with only two players returning from last year's squad. Palmerton will have the luxury of being able to work with Pleasant Valley this season, as the two will share Blue Ridge Country Club's golf course. The opportunity should benefit both schools, especially a young Palmerton squad.

Quoteable - "We have a very inexperienced team and we're just trying to work on the fundamentals heading into this season. It's hard to do in such a short period of time, but I think we will improve as the season goes on and have the chance to win a few matches." Head coach Dave Lavin.

PLEASANT VALLEY

Head coach - Steve Krechel (23rd season)

Assistant coaches- Paul Evans

Last year's record - 6-8 (6-6 MVC)

Classification - AAA

Key Returnees - Ryan Adamonis (Jr.), Logan Beck (Sr.), Craig Roberts (So.), Cody Scully (So.), Matt Schaeffer (So.)

Key losses - Elliot Custerd, Casey Gould, Tom Dickson

Others to watch - Tim Fitzgerald (Jr.), Ryan McCrow (Fr.), Nick Spearko (So.)

Outlook - The Bears will have a new den this season, moving from Indian Mountain Golf Course to Blue Ridge Country Club. The new setting also means Pleasant Valley will be using the same course as Palmerton, which will allow both schools to scrimmage each other on a somewhat regular basis. The charge of scenery will be a welcome sight for a young Pleasant Valley squad looking to rebound from an uneven season last year.

Quoteable - "I think the most important thing for this year is the fact that we changed courses. I'm excited about it; the kids are excited about it. It should be great for everyone on the team." Head coach Steve Krechel.

TAMAQUA

Head coach - Mike Luna (Second season)

Last year's record - 5-7

Classification - AA

Key Returnees - Mike Weinert (Sr.), Matt Stanek (Sr.), Derek Cinicola (Sr.)

Key losses - Travis Miller

Others to watch - Nate McDonald (Jr.), Anthony Lewis (Jr.), Anthony Rago (Sr.), Tim Lehman (Jr.)

Outlook - Senior Mike Weinert will look to pick up where he left off as the 2013 season gets underway. Weinert excelled in 2012, finishing fifth in the Class AA district tournament and earning a trip to regionals. Coach Mike Luna will hope some of that success wears off on his other players, many of whom will be playing at the varsity level for the first time. A solid showing all around a year ago should put the Blue Raiders in position to make some noise in 2013.

Quoteable - "We just want to improve on last year. We played really well down the stretch and I just want to keep that going this season." Head coach Mike Luna.

WEATHERLY

Head coach - Mike Limberg (10th season)

Last year's record - 2-8

Classification - AA

Key Returnees - Josh Reimer (Sr.), Garret Titus (Sr.), Kevin Osifat (So.), Luke Figas (So.), Derek Coombs (Jr.)

Key losses - Alexis Berger, Tanner Titus

Others to watch - Devin Berger (Fr.)

Outlook - With only a handful of returning players, Weatherly will be lacking depth and experience as the 2013 season tees off. Still, the Wreckers have something to build on heading into this year as the team improved from 0-9 in 2011 to 2-8 last year. Coach Mike Limberg hopes the squad continues to make improvements this fall to keep the program headed in the right direction.

Quoteable - "Our goal is to improve over last year's record. If we can do that, it will be a successful season." Head coach Mike Limberg

GIRLS

MARIAN

Head coach - Len Brylewski (Fifth season)

Assistant coach- Renee Srinivasan

Last year's record - 6-6

Classification - AA

Key Returnees - Arianna Srinivasan (Sr..), Monica Wasik (Sr.), Christy Digiandomenico (Sr.), Amanda Srinivasan (Sr.), Emily Fannick (Sr.), Alyssa Wagner (Sr.), Cassidy Decosmo (Sr.), Rebecca Paulshock (Sr.)

Others to watch - Brianna Kubishin (Jr.), Caitlin Koweker (So.)

Outlook – The Fillies continued to show improvement in 2012, finishing with a .500 record and gaining valuable experience against quality competition. The 2013 squad will be led by a group of seniors that have played together for four years and helped establish the program as one of the most competitive in the area. The challenge for Brylewski this season will be to mix in a group of incoming freshmen in hopes of easing the transition to a much younger squad next year.

Quoteable – "We hope to get (the girls) a lot of exposure against a variety of opponents this year. We have them playing a lot of established teams throughout the area and they've done a really good job over the last few years. We just hope to keep making progress this year." Head coach Len Brylewski.
