The Panther Valley School Board on Thursday set salaries for its superintendent, business manager and solicitor.

Superintendent Rosemary Porembo will be paid $107,120 for the 2013-2014 year. The amount reflects a pay freeze. School Director Roy Angst cast the sole "no" vote.

Business Manager Kenneth Marx Jr. will be paid $75,480.46 for the 2013-2014 year. Again, the amount reflects a pay freeze, and again, Angst voted no.

The board also agreed to retain solicitor Robert T. Yurchak for the 2013-2014 school year at a retainer fee of $7,250 and an hourly rate of $90 for work done outside of meetings.

In other personnel matters, the board hired: Brent Reabold as a full-time, permanent high school physics teacher at $36,645; and Jennifer Kupetz as a full-time Special Education secretary at $9.75 an hour.

Cynthia Ann Levis of Lehighton was continued as a short-term substitute German teacher through Jan. 15, 2014, at $135 per day. Corrine Gates was hired as a day-to-day short term substitute middle school physical education teacher, effective Aug. 26 through Oct. 16 at her current contract rate of $37,485 (pro-rated). The daily rate is $201.53 a day.

The board also ratified the employment of Lori Beers as an instructional aide for the Pre-K summer program at $15.50 an hour, retroactive to July 9. It also ratified Tonya Drum as a teacher for the Pre-K summer program at $30 an hour; Drum was also ratified as an extended school year teacher, effective June 18 to Aug. 8, at $30 an hour.

The board hired Brenda Chasarik as a permanent part-time transportation clerk, effective July 1, at $10.90 an hour, and continued the employment of Carrie Selinko as elementary school health room associate at $32,500 for the upcoming school year.

It also continued the employment of Mary Ann Holovack as the non-public school reading teacher for $30 an hour for 15 hours per week, and appointed Amanda Kusko as a teacher of the gifted at a rate of $135 a day for two days a week, not to exceed 85 days a year.

The board also approved the 2013-2014 contract of JROTC Instructor Joseph Jordan.

In other actions, the board created the position of district-wide truant officer/high school and middle school disciplinarian. It then hired Elizabeth Wehr for the job at $29,141.25.
