Nesquehoning Mayor K. Tony Walck has announced his candidacy for re-election to that office. A Democrat, he is seeking his party's nomination in the May 21 Primary Election.

Walck was elected to a two-year term as mayor in November 2003 and re-elected to a four-year term in 2005. Since that time, he has overseen a police department that has maintained a high level of enforcement.During his terms, major drug busts were conducted in the community through the Attorney General's Drug Task Force.The mayor has been very active in community affairs before and since his tenure in office. He helped the borough obtain a $200,000 grant to renovate the police station and also helped secure a $15,000 grant for the purchase of a police cruiser.When the office renovations were underway, he had furniture and filing cabinets donated for the police office, as well as equipment for the borough office."I would like to continue to play an active role in the operations of town government," Walck said. "The residents of Nesquehoning have been very supportive of me and my candidacies in the past and I am looking forward to continuing that in the future."He started a Junior Recreation Commission to get youths more involved in community activities and also formed an active and successful Crime Watch organization in the town.Walck completed the National Incident Management System and Introduction to the Incident Command System courses of the Emergency Management Institute.He is Nesquehoning's Community Emergency Response Team coordinator and serves as a member and president of the Carbon County Citizen's Corps. He helped institute the Carbon County Animal Response Team.Walck is a chemical plant operator for Air Products and Chemicals, Hometown, where he has a long and involved career with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. He was recently appointed by the international president to the machinists' Legislative Committee.Walck is also active in the DARE program at the Panther Valley Elementary School, serves as a Nesquehoning fire policeman and is a volunteer crossing guard at the elementary school.Walck has a career of volunteer work, including the Carbon County Friends of Animals, Carbon County Animal Shelter, Carbon-Tamaqua Unit of the American Cancer Society, Nesquehoning Fire Company No. 1 and the Panther Valley High School's Harmony Scholars program.Walck is married to the former Rose Sniscak.
