Many uplifting stories surfaced from the Boston terrorist bombings but two persons that we didn't need to hear from were liberal Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank and the mother of the two terror suspects.

Both used the tragic events to make political or ideological points.Frank has been criticized for blaming the attacks on sequestration, the mandatory cuts in federal spending, including our law enforcement resources. The political debate itself is not the question but the timing of Frank's remarks were made as Boston families were still grieving for those killed and wounded. Conservatives feel this was no time for Frank to push his politics of blaming Republicans who espouse lower taxes and smaller government.Frank also made an insane remark about the "right wing" after an article in Al-Quaida's Inspire magazine commented about the congressman's sexual orientation. The article, titled "Barney Frank, Gay Congressman, Symbol of the American Dream", maintained that America was a nation "standing on no values."In his comments, Frank, the first openly gay elected official to serve as a U.S. representative, spouted that he wondered how the "right wing in America feels about being aligned with al-Quaida?" He then added that it's ironic that the most active anti gay groups are al-Quaida and the American right wing.Even Frank's stupid remarks rank second to the public comments by the mother of the Boston bombing suspects. Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, a naturalized U.S. citizen who returned to Russia last year, stated in television interviews that her sons were framed and could have never carried out the attacks. She even accused U.S. law enforcement of killing her elder son."It's all lies and hypocrisy," Tsarnaeva said to the AP from Dagestan, Russia. "I'm sick and tired of all this nonsense that they make up about me and my children. People know me as a regular person, and I've never been mixed up in any criminal intentions, especially any linked to terrorism."She also said she regretted moving her sons to the U.S. 11 years ago.It's yet to be determined who helped the two brothers with the attacks. Whether or not the FBI and CIA dropped the ball after being urged by the Russians to investigate Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his mother in 2011 is yet to be seen. One official commented that the FBI never found the type of derogatory information on Tamerlan and his mother that would have elevated their profiles among counterterrorism investigators.But Tsarnaeva, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was not exactly a model citizen when she was in America. According to U.S. criminal records, she was arrested in June 2012 in Natick, Mass., on a shoplifting charge over the alleged theft of $1,624 worth of women's clothing from department store.That and the fact that the Russians regarded Tamerlan and his mother as possible terrorist threats should have raised red flags and at least given them special watch list attention by U.S. officials.By Jim Zbickjzbick@tnonline.com
