The Rundown: Lehigh Valley snapped a five-game losing streak in Game 2 of last night's doubleheader in Indianapolis.
Game 1: Indians 4, IronPigs 1
Summary - Indian hitting jumped all over Adam Morgan in the fourth and fifth innings to plate four runs…With one out in the fourth inning, Pirate prospect Jerry Sands doubled in two runs and in the fifth, the Indians scrapped out a pair of RBI singles…Morgan (1-1) gave up 7 hits in 5.2 innings, walking three and striking out three…In the 7th Cesar Hernandez (2-for-4) drove in Tyson Gillies for the only Lehigh Valley run. Cody Asche followed with a single to bring the tying run to the plate with just one out, but Indian closer Bryan Williams closed the door.
Key Inning - Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded in the first inning but could not score. Clutch hits continue to be few as the IronPigs were just 1-for-2 with RISP.
Game 2: IronPigs 6, Indians 3
Summary – Lehigh Valley got clutch hits in key situations in breaking the five-game losing streak…In the 1st inning, the IronPigs had the bases loaded and no outs. Cody Overbeck's sacrifice fly scored Michael Martinez to put the IronPigs in front 1-0…Martinez led off with a single in the 3rd and came around to score on Josh Fields triple and catcher Steven Lerud hit his second homer of the year for a 3-0 IronPig lead…In the fifth inning, Lehigh Valley blew the game open. Fields drove in his second run and scored on Overbeck's two-run homer that made it 6-1.
A call to Arms – Reliever Zach Miner made his second spot start in a week. Over his four innings of work he gave up just one run on two hits…Joe Savery, back from his short stint with the Phillies, pitched an inning and gave up one run…Justin DeFratus (2-0) got the win with a pair of strong innings to close out the win.
Notes – On the day, Lehigh Valley was just an abysmal 3-for-19 with runners in scoring position…Cody Asche has now hit safely in 7 straight games after going 1-for-3 in game one. During that stretch his batting .407 (11-for-27)…In game 2, DeFratus gave up his first run of the year in 7 games. His ERA jumped up to 0.82.
