Since the beginning of April, Tamaqua police have stepped up traffic enforcement operations, resulting in a large number of tickets being issued in the past two weeks.

Many motorists found themselves receiving citations for expired inspection stickers, including: Anthony Malay; Carl J. Miller Jr.; Lindsey Burnett; Samantha Gibbons; Tracey Miller; Lois Knadler; Danielle Fulton, and Chris Heimbach, all of Tamaqua. Also, Joseph Hellera of Lewistown Valley; Meghan Grim of New Tripoli; Robert Nunemacher of Andreas; William Campion Jr. of Philadelphia; Eric Schaeffer of Summit Hill, and Alicia Brode of New Ringgold.

While monitoring traffic on routes 309 and 209, officers also issued a number of speeding tickets. Six motorists were ticketed for going faster than the 45 m.p.h. posted limit on Route 309, near the Owl Creek Road intersection. The speeds ranged from 60 to 68 miles per hour. On Route 209, at the east end of the borough, the speed limit is posted at 25 m.p.h. Eleven motorists were ticketed for traveling the area at speeds ranging from 40 to 45 m.p.h.

One motorist was also cited for a seat belt violation.

Michelle Parrish, of Tamaqua, was cited on April 9 for failure to stop at a red light at the intersection of Center and Cedar Streets.
