Pepe is gone, but he will never be forgotten by his owner Geralyn Lyons of Weissport.

Her precious pet's life was snuffed out by a vicious act of violence. He died after he was shot by an arrow that not only pierced his body, but went all the way through it, with most of the entire length of the arrow remaining lodged in his body.Pepe was a black longhair domestic cat who was loved, said Lyons.Lyons estimated his age at 1-1/2 years old."I have no photos of him," she said. "Who would have thought his life would be snuffed out at 1-1/2 years old?"Lyons said that on Saturday night she had been in an upstairs apartment having coffee with her friend, Janet Conner. She had come downstairs to her own apartment when she heard Pepe at the kitchen window asking to come in.At first she thought that a stick was attached to him when she saw what appeared to be a piece of wood. She brought the cat inside and he was bleeding heavily and she realized her cat was severely injured. It was about 9:30 p.m.Her shrill screams brought Janet downstairs to her apartment."I said someone shot my cat," she said. "He was covered in blood."She then contacted Steve Armbruster, Weissport's police officer, She said she reacted by pulling the arrow from Pepe's body."The officer's face turned gray," she said. "He said he had never seen anything like it."She and Conner then took Pepe to a veterinarian's emergency office in Allentown where he was put down because of the extent of his injuries."They told me it could cost $5,200 or more and then there was no guarantee he would survive," she said. "I live on a fixed income and I could not afford the bill."That comment brought sobs from the distraught woman.Lyons said that she has been living in Weissport over a year and loves her apartment, but now distrusts all of her neighbors because of what has happened to her cat."Until you prove your innocence, you are guilty," she said. "I've never been so horrified in my life."Lyons also has a Yorkshire Terrier, Moose, and another cat, Little Bit. She is not going to let them out of her sight."I think that anyone who would do this to a cat would do this to a child," she said. "I am warning everyone that a lunatic is out there and you better watch your pets."Lyons said she is an animal lover and she can't believe that anyone would be so cold hearted to kill Pepe."Pepe was a friendly cat," she said. "He probably brushed up against the person who shot him."Lyons said that Pepe's death isn't her only pet tragedy.She said that two of her cats went missing in November. She also noted that Little Bit was poisoned and she brought him through it and both Pepe and Little Bit were struck by BB gun pellets.The cat in her arms still shows signs of where his hair had been shaved to attend to his injuries."I lived in Jersey where you had to dodge bullets," she said. "I am 58 years old and I have never been so horrified in my life. This has got to be stopped."The women said that they walked the neighborhood looking for a blood trail and found cat hair and blood on the other side of the empty house next door, but the more horrific find was seeing the tip of the arrow and the trail it left in the dirt in her own yard.It appeared that the cat was shot not more than 20 feet from the window where he usually enters the house."Pepe was howling in pain all the way to the vet's office," said Lyons. "It was awful. There is a sick, sick psycho out there."Lyons said, "My pets are my family. I'm by myself with my pets."Lyons said that Pepe's death was a brutal ending to his life."I haven't slept since this happened. I'll never lose that vision. I hope I never have to see it again."Conner spoke up, "I've lived in Weissport for 22 years and I have never feared for my life. Now I fear for my life and the life of my pets and my grandchildren."Conner said that the $100 reward is offered for anyone who can shed light on who shot Pepe.
