The Lansford Coaldale Joint Water Authority is amenable to borough council's efforts to build a handicapped access ramp to its offices at 1 E. Ridge St.

The water authority's offices are next door, in an attached building, which has its own ramp.

Council President Rose Mary Cannon had written to the water authority on March 5 about the borough's plans, enclosing a copy of a letter from Keystone Consulting.

At a public meeting Wednesday, Cannon read aloud Water Authority solicitor James R. Nanovic's April 2 reply:

"In short, the authority agrees with the proposal. We understand from the Keystone letter that the current ramp that is in place in front of the Authority building would need to be replaced. This would need to be at the expense of the borough. Further, and importantly, we would want to see the plans that are submitted before any final approval," Nanovic wrote.

As part of the project, heating oil fill locations would need to be included in the plans, and fuel oil tanks may need to be moved, again at the borough's expense.

The nest step is to survey the area.

In other matters Wednesday, council opened bids for the job of replacing roofs at the public swimming pool site. Four companies submitted bids, but council tabled action until members had looked more closely at the proposals.

The bids are to replace the roofs on the pavilion; a building whose roof is tagged "roof 1;" the snack shop, and the office.

Crown Contracting offered to replace the pavilion roof for $2,700; roof 1 for $9,150; the snack shop for $5,450, and the office for $14,450.

Spotts Bros. Inc., Schuylkill Haven, offered to replace the pavilion roof for $2,700; roof 1 for $8,900; the snack shop for $4,800, and the office for $14,100.

Diversified Construction, Inc., Selinsgrove, offered to replace the pavilion roof for $2,750; roof 1 for $8,750; the snack shop for $4,500, and the office for $13,750.

Hutchinson Construction, Hazleton, offered to replace the pavilion roof for $2,070; roof 1 for $7,340; the snack shop for $3,865, and the office for $11,715.

Council also reminded residents that permits are needed for large metal trash bins, commonly known as Dumpsters. The fee for the permit depends on the size of the bin.

Also on Wednesday, council agreed to seek replacements for Irma Leibensperger and Marie Ondrus on the borough Parks and Recreation Board. There was some confusion as to whether the women were resigning from the post of treasurer, or from the board itself.
