A trailer was burned during a junkyard fire Monday afternoon in Washington Township.

The fire started just after 2 p.m. when the junk trailer and heavy machinery caught fire off Scout House Road.

Borough Fire Chief Keith Weaver said the fire spread into the brush and spanned about a 60-foot area.

The fire was under control within about 45 minutes, Weaver said. The trailer, owned by Ed Ziegler, was full of dog food, he said.

Weaver said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were the Walnutport Fire Company, Emerald Fire Company, and tankers from Neffs, Slatedale, Friedens, Laurys Station and Lehigh Township. The Palmerton Fire Company and Germansville Fire Company also assisted.
