There might not be much to Panther Valley's Kyle Ferryman as far as size goes.

The junior is listed at 5-9 165 and that's being generous. However, with Ferryman, size really doesn't matter because its his speed and football savvy that have gotten him this week's TIMES NEWS Player of the Week.The week four honor goes to Ferryman after his outstanding performance against Jim Thorpe in a shootout last week that saw the Panthers come away with a 49-48 overtime victory. Ferryman was a big reason for the Panthers victory, rushing seven times for 123 yards and two touchdowns, along with catching the winning touchdown in overtime. Ferryman made things happen all night and has been a big play threat all year for PV. On Friday night alone Ferryman was responsible for 110 yards just on plays where he scored touchdowns."We really felt coming into this off-season that Kyle could have an impact role on this team," said Panther Valley coach Lon Hazlet. "He's lived up to our expectations so far this season and we challenge him everyday to be a complete player and he continues to work hard. Simply put, when the ball is in the air or in his hands the kid is electric."Ferryman along with a lot of his teammates have brought a new positive attitude to Panther Valley football in 2012 and a new work ethic as well. So far, it seems to be working as the Panthers are 3-1 and off to their best start since 2009."There were about 30-40 us that came to every workout during the off-season and we really have put in a lot of work to become a better team," said Ferryman. "Everyone of us has a different part and a different job and my job is to make plays, especially when teams are keying on Richie. I just try to go out there and play my hardest and I try to leave it all out there on the field."Ferryman has been making big plays all season and it shows in his numbers. Against Mahanoy he a had a 34-yard catch for a touchdown and 41 yards on just five carries. Against Schuylkill Valley a 4-0 squad out of District 3, Ferryman caught 4 balls for 89 yards and a score. In week three against Kutztown he had 82 yards receiving on just two catches, also scoring a touchdown. Ferryman has caught a touchdown in every game this season and is showing opposing defenses that if you give Ferryman an inch, he's going to take it a mile."Kyle displays all the things we want Panther Valley football to portray," said Hazlet. "He's a great student, hard-worker, and continues to impress us with the things he's been doing on the football field. When the ball is in the air I don't know if there is anybody better in our league."As good as Ferryman is on the offensive end, he may be just as good on the defensive side. On multiple occasions in the Panthers game against Jim Thorpe Ferryman made game-saving type plays. He broke up a couple of Duvigneaud's long distance passes that looked to be touchdowns and also made a touchdown-saving tackle late in the game as well. No matter where Ferryman is, he is a threat to make a play and can do so at any time. A perfect compliment to the smashmouth type play of the Panthers."We've just been trying to play good football through hardwork and preparation," said Ferryman. "We want to do things the right way here. I know my job is to make big plays for us and when they call my number I'll be ready to deliver as best I can. We've all been working hard and I would never be able to make the plays I have been making if all of us did not put in the time this off-season. We just have to keep putting forth the effort and good things will happen."
