A driver left the scene of a one-vehicle crash in Schuylkill County on Friday, Sept. 14. It was one of two hit-and-run accidents probed by state police at Schuylkill Haven.

Troopers said Michael Keefer, 50, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro eastbound on SR895 in Pine Grove Township about 7:43 p.m. Keefer attempted to avoid a deer with his vehicle leaving the road and striking a utility pole. After impact with the pole the vehicle continued another 200 feet before it came to rest in a field.

Troopers said Keefer then left the scene. The vehicle sustained significant damage and was towed. Troopers said Keefer was cited.

The second hit-and-run occurred about 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the intersection of the jughandle and SR61, in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Samantha Haynes, 29, of Pottsville, was stopped in the jughandle operating a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo waiting for a red light. A vehicle pulled along side her with it striking the rear passenger side of the Aveo.

After the light turned green the other driver made a left turn onto SR61 to go north. Haynes pulled over.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a Chevrolet sedan, black in color, either a Malibu or Impala. A older white male was driving the vehicle with an older white female passenger. The hit-and-run vehicle may have red paint on it and has a state disabled person plate on it.
