Fall clean up
Schuylkill County residents will have the opportunity to dispose of old tires, appliances, bulk items and electronics during the annual fall clean up campaign, scheduled locally for the week of Sept. 24. Electronics, tires, appliances and bulky items may be dropped off at the Tamaqua Transfer Station that week, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 7 a.m. until noon.
The Great Pennsylvania Fall/SKIP Clean Up campaign is scheduled for Sept. 22. Volunteers will meet at the M and T parking lot, Broad and Center Street. Residents and business owners may lend a hand by cleaning their respective sidewalks and properties that day.
Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves and complimentary beverages will be provided. Trash bags must then be placed beside a state highway for collection purposes. Trash may also be disposed of in a dumpster located at the rear of the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St.

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua next Wednesday, from 1-6 p.m., at St. John United Church of Christ, Pine and Biddle streets. This visit is being sponsored by Alpha Theta Masters Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health, is eligible to donate blood. Walk-ins are welcome and appointments may be made by calling 1-800-733-2767 or go online at www.redcrossblood.org .
The Salvation Army is offering two levels of computer classes, beginning Oct. 1, at the Tamaqua center, 105 W. Broad St. The classes will each have eight sessions.
Computer I is a basic, start from scratch class for those who have limited or no computer experience. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Computer II is for novices who have some computer experience and are familiar with basic computer navigation and the Internet

The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the South Ward Community Center.
Special guests will be the Tamaqua Borough Housing and Neighborhood Committee members, who will be interested in hearing residents' concerns.
The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Harvest Home Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley.
Nonperishable foods will be collected and later donated to Women In Crisis.
Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
The Rev. Jeffrey Kistler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school classes will meet at 8:30 p.m.
Also on Sunday, a time of coffee and conversation will be held following the service and the Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, blanket project meets at 9 a.m.; Tuesday, scouts meet at 6 p.m., council meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Scout leader meeting at 6 p.m., senior choir rehearsal at 7 p.m.
