Open house

An Open House will be held Sept. 17 at the Tamaqua Area Middle School. Principal Christopher Czapla, encourages parents to attend and have the opportunity to meet with their children's teachers and obtain information concerning the school curriculum and student expectations.

The open house will begin at 6:30 p.m. Parents should go to their student's homeroom and pick up a copy of their child's schedule and the bell schedule for the evening.

Older and bolder

The Tamaqua Salvation Army's Older and Bolder sessions have resumed regular weekly meetings, which will be held Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to noon.

September activities will include: a special ice cream social on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Schuylkill Haven; Sept. 19, drawing demonstration by Donna Bieren and bell practice; Sept. 26, STS registration day and preparing for the annual volunteer appreciation dinner; Sept. 28, bell performance at the Tamaqua Salvation Army dinner meting, which will begin at 6 p.m.

Summer concerts

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce will conclude its sixth year of presenting free summer concerts with a performance by It Takes Two on Sept. 13. Concerts are held from 6-8 p.m., on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station, weather permitting.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes and the junior membership classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Tamaqua Youth Ministry staff will meet at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., new "the Story" growth group will begin at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m. and praise practice at 9:30 a.m.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will be followed by a meeting of the board of directors at 10:45 a.m. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the youth group, Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will all meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Women's of St. Peter's group will meet at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m., cherub choir will meet at 6:30 p.m., senior choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.
