All day, until the second overtime period, Pleasant Valley and Stroudsburg had a stalemate in the Mountain Valley Conference Championship game Saturday in East Stroudsburg.

Eighteen seconds into the second overtime senior Jess Hagy accepted a pass and then whacked the ball at a high speed over the head of Pleasant Valley goalie Janelle Pastrana to give the Mounties a 2-1 win.

The Mounties were first to score. Midway in the first half, Eva Swartout passed the ball from the left side to Bria Bittinger who smacked the ball in the right center of the net.

Then, PV tied things in the second half. At the 14:57 mark, Emily Schlogl kicked a wicked ball past Stroudsburg's goalie on the left side of the net.

Both teams entered the contest with a 10-1-1 league record. Pleasant Valley was 13-5-1 for the season while Stroudsburg was 16-2-2.

PV coach Tim Hinton remarked, "The first half was slow. They (Stroudsburg) pretty much dominated us the first half."

Still, the Mounties were able to score just one goal.

The second half was "back and forth," Hinton said. "For the most part, we were the better team."

"I'm proud of my girls," he said. "We could have packed it in, but they fought every moment."

Stroudsburg coach Cindy Stevenson commented, "Our girls really wanted this."

She added, "Jesse had the game winner. She had her ups and downs this season. It couldn't have ended up more perfectly for our season."

In the first half, Stroudsburg had six shots on goal while the Lady Bears had five.

The Mounties had seven shots on goal in the second half and PV had five.

Stroudsburg had a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal in the first overtime.
