2 women hikers found

Firefighters from three departments took more than five hours Sunday afternoon to locate and bring two lost female hikers off a mountain north of Jim Thorpe. The two hikers entered the woodlands sometime Sunday morning and managed to make their way to a very remote area atop the Broad Mountain in state game lands 141. Just after noon they made a call to the Carbon County Communication Center saying they were lost and exhausted. Jim Thorpe firefighters entered the woods along the bike trail of the Lehigh Gorge State Park about a mile north of the Glen Onoko parking area. Nesquehoning firefighters along with Mark Nalesnik, Carbon county emergency management coordinator entered the state game lands off of SR93. The Lehighton fire department also sent units to the scene. The women were found by personnel of the Nesquehoning fire department and brought to safety about 5:30 p.m. Both women were exhausted but without injury.
