What do you do when your rainbow becomes dull and faded?

You hope a Boy Scout comes to the rescue.The Rainbow Walk at Pleasant Valley Elementary School had once been a vibrant walkway of the seven colors of the rainbow that led to the school's playground. But the wearing of weather and little feet took its toll and was severely faded.When Adam Foley, a Pleasant Valley High School sophomore, was looking for an Eagle Scout project, he inquired at the school district if there was any work that needed to be done at any of the schools. He was given a list of possible projects. The Rainbow Walk was one of them and that appealed to him. He approached PVE's principal, Mr. Joshua Krebs, and a deal was struck."I was very happy to work with Adam. I'm an Eagle Scout also. It was Eagle Scout to Eagle Scout," he says.Adam worked closely with Mrs. Diane Siani, PVE's assistant principal, on every phase of the project.First Adam visited the playground area in October 2011, took notes on what some of the issues were and drew a sketch. He made a plan and submitted it for approval, which he received that December. He began fundraising in February by selling Gertrude Hawk candy bars and in June he held a car wash. He raised about $500 to complete the project.The Rainbow Walk originally had seven lanes, the colors of the rainbow, but he was asked to make just six lanes so he had to reconfigure them.It took four gallons each of blue, green and purple paint, five gallons each of red and orange and between four to five gallons of yellow.This summer, Adam organized a work crew, consisting of his mom and dad, Diane and Scott Foley, sister, Erica, 12 and members of his Boy Scout troop. They spent a weekend painting. Adam refinished four benches and a month later he painted two hopscotch area from stencils he made."It went a lot better than I thought. When it was all finished, I thought 'Wow, I can't believe I did this,'" says Adam.Everyone, from students to staff, was thrilled to see the bright new Rainbow Walk the first day of school and thinks Adam did a fantastic job."I'm glad people like it," he says.Now a junior at PVHS, Adam, 17, just recently completed all his Eagle Scout paperwork and has submitted it on to Boy Scouts headquarters for consideration and awaits to hear if he will receive that honor.Adam joined Cub Scouts over 10 years ago and says he has always wanted to be an Eagle Scout. He believes that the rank is given in recognition of leadership skills, which he thinks he has. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 109. Robert Facella is his Scoutmaster and they meet at St. Peter's UMC in Saylorsburg.Adam plans to continue his education after high school by attending college where he hopes to major in computer sciences."I'd like to someday work at Apple," he says.His parents are extremely proud of him.Mrs. Siani says that Adam is definitely worthy of Eagle Scout rank.One might say that Adam's Eagle Scout rank was his pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
