A Lehigh County man, who previously admitted to drug dealing in Carbon County, was sentenced Monday to a state prison term.

Lorenzo Phillips, 36, of Allentown, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to served 12 to 24 months on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-crack cocaine.Phillips was arrested on Dec. 21, 2011, following a vehicle stop in the 300 block of S. Ninth St., in Lehighton. Agents of the state Attorney General's office had Phillips under surveillance after receiving information from two confidential informants (CI) that he was trafficking in crack cocaine in the Carbon County area.When stopped and taken into custody Phillips admitted he was selling crack cocaine for about two months out of an apartment in Mahoning Township. He said he had 10 to 15 regular customers.Defense Attorney Gregory Mousseau told Serfass that Phillips was illiterate despite the fact he is a graduate of William Allen High School in Allentown. He said Phillips was unemployed but was providing for his girlfriend and her children. He said Phillips told him he started selling drugs because he couldn't find a job.Phillips told Serfass he knows what he did was wrong but did it to get money to provide for his family.Serfass said he recognized that the defendant made some bad choices but had be be punished for what he did.In addition to the jail term Phillips was ordered to supply a DNA sample, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, and attend illiteracy classes while in prison.He was given credit for two days spent in jail on the charges and began the prison term immediately.He must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000.
