A public hearing at which there was no comment was held at 7 p.m. prior to the Oct. 2 Washington Township supervisors' meeting. The hearing was for an amendment to allow larger accessory structures on lots of two acres or more.

Where a structure of 1,600 square feet was permitted, it can now be up to 3,200 square feet. A structure of 2,400 square feet can be placed on a lot that permitted 1,200 square feet. Agriculture buildings are exempt. During the regular meeting it was adopted.In response to a request by the Northern Lehigh Events Committee, the fire police were given permission to help at the annual Halloween parade and some roads will be closed. Approval was given.The parade is Saturday, Oct. 27. Road closures will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the lineup at South and Main beginning at 5 p.m. The start of the parade will be at 6:30 p.m.Trick or treat night will be Oct. 24, 6 to 8 p.m. - the same day as in Slatington.Pat Roman owns land on Molasses Barrel Road where it begins at Lovers' Lane.She presented both a 1993 and a 1996 map and wanted to know what would be required to bring the road up to standards. There is a 33-foot right of way for the two-tenth mile road. She said she has 86 acres she cannot use because of the road issue.Supervisors said she should contact a local engineer who can help her, possibly even over the phone which would cut down on costs.She has already spent $28,000 to improve the road to her and two of her children's homesThank you letters were received from Dan Kunkle of the Lehigh Gap Nature Center for a $3,000 donation and continued maintenance on the access road.District Attorney Jim Martin thanked the township for a donation for a child abuse investigator.The Eddie Mack property in Emerald, if not cleaned up, may be cleaned following a magistrate's hearing by the township and a lien placed on the property to meet the costsDiscussed at the Sept. 4 workshop meeting, according to the minutes, was the possibility to get money for bridge repairs or replacement from a Marcellus Shale fund.The township will no longer receive any money from state police fines.Trail work is done and the project will be closed out.Under public comment Ed Ziegler asked if he could cross township property to reach his Big 60 quarry where he wants divers to look for vehicles that may be in the quarry. He has to show insurance coverage.
