A 19-month-old boy was shot to death while in his crib and his mother has been jailed as a result of the incident.

Slatington police said Holly Pallone, 26, of 214 N. Walnut St., second floor apartment, was attempting to unload a .44-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun in a bedroom and seated on a bed next to the crib where the child was.

The bullet entered and went through a mattress and into the crib striking the young boy Anthony F. Pallone Jr.

Police were called to the apartment about 11:53 p.m. Saturday and found the boy deceased in the crib. Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim pronounced the boy dead at 12:47 a.m. He ruled the death a homicide. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning.

Pallone told police she was attempting to unload the gun because she was going to sell it for $200. The gun is registered to Lloyd Peters, who police said rents apartment 2B. He was not at home when the incident occurred, police noted.

Police have charged Pallone with involuntary manslaughter. She is lodged in the county prison in Allentown under $1 million bail.

According to police, Pallone told them she took the gun off a shelf to get ready to sell. She said while sitting on her bed next to the crib she tried to unload it. As she was trying to remove the bullets the gun went off.

She also told police she didn't know anything about guns or how to unload one.

Assisting borough police in the investigation is the county district attorney's office, coroner's office, and the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force.
