A community get-together is on tap later this month for one area school district.

The Palmerton Area School District Resource Fair will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the high school gymnasium.

It will be open to parents, students, community members, invited school groups and community groups, said Christine Steigerwalt, principal of Towamensing Elementary.

Among those in attendance will be boy scouts, girl scouts, public library, booster club, community services, school clubs, and Parent Teacher Organizations, Steigerwalt said. Each group will have a table set up with a flyer that identifies them, she said.

"It will be an opportunity to see what is offered in the community and in the school to benefit students," Steigerwalt said. "We thought this would be a way to have all the organizations together, and have an opportunity for parents and students to come."

Steigerwalt said the idea for the Resource Fair was borne from out of district administrative meetings.

"We're excited about it, and we just hope that the people come out and take advantage of the opportunity to come and visit all of the organizations," she said. "It's a way to bring school and community together."
